The great artist Michelangelo demonstrated an impressive capacity to transform, to pivot, and to adapt as he evolved from sculptor, to painter, to architect. Almost 500 years later Google experienced the same imperatives to adapt and to transform from a search engine to a larger portfolio of offerings.  What traits link these two, seemingly remote examples?  Both Michelangelo and Google needed to have intelligence, leadership, humility and grit in order to accomplish their respective goals.  This talk examines how business cultures can identify and enhance these crucial characteristics.

Join Jim Link, CHRO of Randstad North America, as we explore several global mega trends changing the very nature of how companies will address talent management in the future.  Tomorrow's world of work promises to look very different, particularly in the way work and workers are sourced, organized, and managed.  We'll cover the impact of talent supply, technology, economic transformation, demographic changes, and the emergence of Generation Z into the global workforce.

Join Dave Vance, Executive Director of the Center for Talent Reporting, to learn about Talent Development Reporting Principles (TDRp) and how these emerging global standards can help you manage the HR function to deliver planned, measurable results more effectively and efficiently. This industry-led initiative was launched in 2010 to provide standards for the measurement, reporting, and management of human capital at both the strategic and tactical levels. TDRp is built on the work of Jac Fitz-enz and other industry thought leaders in the human capital analytics and measurement field and incorporates the ongoing work of SHRM and other organizations. More than simply measures, TDRp also provides standards for the reporting and management of human capital employing basic business principles.

Our HR LEADERSHIP ROUNDTABLES are 3 events per year focused on Senior HR leaders (CHRO's, VP's HR...).  These Roundtables are exclusive for Corporate Members, no service providers will attend.  The purpose of the Roundtables is to have in-depth discussions and sharing of best practices.  Topics are chosen  for the year but as we want to be flexible and timely, we will ask members for ideas and might adapt the programming accordingly.  No substitutes or guests at Roundtables.

In history books, 2017 will for sure be remembered as the year of natural disasters: Harvey, Irma, Maria etc.  When we have this session, businesses will have picked up their normal cadence and most of us will start focusing on new goals in a new year.  It is good to take time to reflect and prepare for the future.  What can we learn from each other on how we transitioned from crisis to recovery?  How did you help your employees while focusing on business performance?  What did your company's response to the crisis do to your culture, and have you built on this?  What, if anything,  are you planning to do differently next time (unfortunately, the next hurricane season is only 3 months a way)...

Human Resources leaders usually are very effective in building development programs for other functions.  Very often however we forget to develop our own functional talent.  Let's learn from each other on how Houston based companies develop their HR profession.  Do you have a specific program  for HR?  Have you insourced or outsourced the program?  Which tools do you use to develop business partners?  What competencies in HR do you focus on?

A couple of years ago the traditional performance management systems started to be questioned.   The influx of a new generation and the deficiencies of the traditional system were key drivers.  Some companies immediately changed their approach.  No ratings, multiple meetings during the year, no link with pay, multi-rater feedback...etc. were some of the changes that were implemented.  Some companies felt their culture was not ready to make changes or their performance management program is working.  We are looking to share some of the things we learned during this period.  Are your seeing results of the changes you made?  Are you still getting requests to revise your program?

Our TALENT ROUNDTABLES are 2 events per year focused on Talent Leaders.  These Roundtables are exclusive for Corporate Members, no service providers will attend.  The purpose of the Roundtables is to have in-depth discussions and sharing of best practices.  Topics are chosen  for the year but as we want to be flexible and timely, we will request members for ideas and might adapt the programming accordingly.  No substitutes or guests at Roundtables.

"Success and Failures in Leadership Development Programs"

October 25, 2018

Member Appreciation Event

Location: The Houstonian, 111 N Post Oak Ln, Houston 77024

Location: TBD

Leadership Development is one of the more visible initiatives HR can implement in the organization.   If done well, it is a long term business differentiator.  We all have our success stories (and we want to share them) but we also have learned a lot a long the way.  This Roundtable will give ideas to those Talent leaders who have programs in place and want to improve or for leaders who are planning to implement a program in the future.

Join us for networking and drinks and appetizers to celebrate our first year of Human Resources Leadership Network Houston.  We want to thank our more than 50 members who signed up in the first year.  We so much value your participation during our round tables and your attendance and enthousiasm during our Signature Events.  We look forward sharing with you our 2019 calendar and new offerings!
