When we as HR Leaders develop our Human Capital plans, not only should we take our business strategy into account but also look at the broader economic context.  Some of us have national and global operations and we might get some overall high level data for the locations we operate in.  But as we are all based in Houston, an in-depth understanding of the economic situation of Houston will give us insights in how to plan for the future.  Join us in this dynamic session with Roel Gabe Martinez, Research Director at the Greater Houston Partnership.   Mr. Martinez will describe the current Employment Outlook for the year (in context of past years), he will address Houston key economic drivers: Energy, U.S. Economy, Exports, and Population – and the risks each driver faces (e.g. trade war, anti-immigration policy, etc.) and he will finish by looking at local economic indicators like employment by industry, and some leading economic indicators that give clues to where Houston’s economy is heading.

Many business leaders now see organization design as a key lever, along with talent, for strategy execution. But, too many still focus on changing org charts and call their HR partners in too late to the process.  In this session, Michele DiMartino, from Kates Kesler Organization Consulting, will discuss their latest work on re-shaping company operating models and translating them into tangible organization design choices that enable the corporate growth plan. She’ll share practical examples and tools that you can apply in your own practice.

Randy Hain, President of Serviam Partners, will offer enlightening perspectives on the power of doing business relationships the right way.  He will unpack the four biggest contributors to poorly done business relationships and offer practical tips to overcome these challenges.  This talk will be focused on equipping our group to engage differently in the area of business relationships with work colleagues, internal clients and others in our professional/personal networks.  Be prepared for an engaging conversation, lots of stories and a refreshingly practical approach to relationship building.

"Connecting Employees to Your Company's Purpose"

Location: The Houstonian, 111 N Post Oak Ln, Houston 77024

Location: The Houstonian, 111 N Post Oak Ln, Houston 77024

Location: The Houstonian, 111 N Post Oak Ln, Houston 77024

In need of some new ideas around Wellness and Health benefits?  Is the ever increasing cost worrying your CFO and CEO?  Does it feel all the burden is on the company and your employees take little ownership? Join us for this roundtable in which we will share our ideas and innovative approaches to make our employees aware of the need for a company-employee partnership in health, the various initiatives we drive in health and financial wellness and how this fit will the culture we want to create

According to Bain & Company partners Eric Garton and Michael Mankins in Harvard Business Review (HBR) (November 2017), productivity among satisfied employees is 100%, while engaged employees hit 144%, and inspired employees deliver 225% productivity. Garton and Mankins state that employees are inspired if they get meaning from their company’s purpose and are inspired by leaders in their company.  In this Roundtable we will share our experiences in connecting employees to our Company’s purpose/mission and strategy and the results we have seen.  Which initiatives/programs/cultural transformations… have you initiated that inspired employees?  What didn’t work?

As HR leaders we get bombarded with research around the various generations in the workplaces, their differences, their characteristics, percentage of the workforce etc.  In this Roundtable we will discuss which approach you are taking to identify and implement specific programs for specific generations.  Do you have a broad brush approach and include all generations in all programs? Do you study and take into account generational research before you develop and launch initiatives?  Do you build your culture around specific generational attributes

"Benchmarking"

Location: The Houstonian, 111 N Post Oak Ln, Houston 77024

In delivering the highest value to our company, we often want to benchmark.  Which benchmark tools do you use for your various initiatives (compensation, policies, …)?  In the first part of this session we focus on the various resources we employ to get our benchmark data.  The second part of the session we want to open up to our members to ask any question to the group.  This will give you the opportunity to hear how many other companies are thinking about programs you want to implement, who else is struggling in the same area you see problems or who else is experiencing things you perceive in your organization.
