"HR Leaders and Boards"

October 16, 2019

Member Appreciation Event

Anna Catalano , Independent Director

Location: The Houstonian, 111 N Post Oak Ln, Houston 77024

CHRO’s can have significant impact on the effectiveness and dynamics of boards.  They also put the human capital agenda in front of owners and board members and if done well, are able to really articulate the competitive advantage of skills, knowledge and experience of the workforce.  Join Anna Catalano in exploring what characteristics and competencies help CHRO’s to be successful in these tasks and challenges.  Throughout Anna’s rich experience with boards and HR’s role, she has seen what great HR leaders can accomplish within boards and how they can shape the people agenda at the highest levels in organizations.  Anna’s viewpoint starts with what the Board’s role is and how HR leaders can add value.

Join us for networking and drinks and appetizers to celebrate another successful year of Human Resources Leadership Network Houston.  We want to thank our more than 50 members who signed up.  We so much value your participation during our round tables and your attendance and enthusiasms during our Signature Events.  We look forward sharing with you our 2020 calendar and new offerings!

Our ROUNDTABLES are 4 events per year focused on Senior HR leaders (CHRO's, VP's HR...).  These Roundtables are exclusive for Corporate Members, no service providers will attend.  The purpose of the Roundtables is to have in-depth discussions and sharing of best practices.  Topics are chosen  for the year but as we want to be flexible and timely, we will ask members for ideas and might adapt the programming accordingly.  No substitutes or guests at Roundtables.

"HR and Technology Innovation"

Location: The Houstonian, 111 N Post Oak Ln, Houston 77024

Location: The Houstonian, 111 N Post Oak Ln, Houston 77024

Location: The Houstonian, 111 N Post Oak Ln, Houston 77024

In this Roundtable, we will address Executive Compensation from two different angles.  First, what are we seeing as new trends in executive compensation?  What are our Boards and CEO’s pushing for?  Are there any major macro-economic drivers influencing our Executive Compensation philosophies?  Secondly, we will discuss how we as HR Leaders in the company drive business outcomes and shape executive behaviors by our Executive Compensation recommendations.  What has worked well in our interactions with the Compensation Committee?  What are lessons learned?

While we might still be thinking about implementing the best HRIS system and how to use analytics to drive decisions, the world outside us has moved already on to Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Self Service Tools, Smart Corporate Learning Tools and other fancy solutions.  What are technology evolutions you are interested in or you are testing in your company?  How do you make decisions which technology innovation train to jump on and which one you rather pass?  How do you stay informed about HR Technology trends?  And broader, what role do we as Senior HR leaders play in the overall digital transformation in our companies?  Are we a actively designing competitive advantages through technology?  What role could or should we play in the overall technology strategy?

When it comes to Executive Succession Planning, CHRO’s can undoubtedly play a major role in outlining the future leaders of the company.  We often use sophisticated processes, 9 by 9 boxes and leadership competencies to discuss succession planning at lower levels.  Do we use the same tools for our Executives?  How do you include other dynamics like Board or Nomination Committee’s perceptions into the decision making?  Do you actively build succession talent for the C-Suite over a long time frame or do you hire from the outside? And once successors are identified, how do you create (and get buy in for) effective development plans for your executives?

"Great Places to Work"

Location: The Houstonian, 111 N Post Oak Ln, Houston 77024

A “Great Place to Work” label can be an attractive proposition for potential candidates.  For employees it can be a great sign of pride.  Is there really an ROI on becoming a great place to work?  For some public recognitions a company has to go through a serious assessment, for others it is an easy application.  Has your organization been more successful since obtaining the external recognition?  How do you build the business case?  How do you include your organization in the process?  Have you seen real benefits to your Employee Value Proposition?
